What Our Patients Say

Questions & Answers

The fat transfer to the buttocks, otherwise known as the Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, is a two-part body contouring procedure that includes liposuction and fat transfer to the butt. It defines and repositions the outer thighs and buttocks so they appear more rounded and shapelier.

You can expect to be a bit sore for at least the first few days after a BBL; you’re encouraged to rest for at least two weeks, during which it’s important to avoid sitting on your buttocks in order to minimize compression and help your new little fat cells to develop their needed blood supply. You should also expect some swelling and bruising, which are common Brazilian Butt Lift side effects that may last for up to one month.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Barrett will listen carefully to your concerns and aesthetic goals to determine whether a BBL is right for you. Generally speaking, a good Brazilian Butt Lift candidate will be evaluated on several factors, including:

  • A desire to enhance the size of the buttocks
  • A suitable area of stubborn fat that can be used as a donor site
  • Sufficient fat to remove and inject into the buttocks
  • Contour irregularities that can be addressed through fat injections
  • Good skin tone and elasticity to ensure the skin conforms smoothly around the new contour
  • The ability to remain off your buttocks for a few weeks to ensure optimal results

Dr. Barrett has performed thousands of BBLs, and though it is a commonly performed procedure, all surgery comes with risks. It’s important that you choose a board certified plastic surgeon to perform your Brazilian Butt Lift, discuss your medical history and goals and follow the advice of your doctor.

Results of a BBL are evident within just weeks of the procedure, and when the treatment is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Barrett, the results are quite long-lasting. As with all fat transfers, not all of your transferred fat cells will survive, but the ones that do are permanent. This means that your final results, once your swelling has gone down, are your final results.
